Blow Dries with Barry Alan Salon*

Barry Allen Salon

A few weeks ago, I headed down to Barry Alan Hair Salon in the centre of Norwich, to join my fellow bloggers in a blow dry evening with the Team at SNS. As my own Mum is trained in hairdressing, she is normally the one who cuts my locks on a yearly basis. I don’t style my hair very often…either I wake up with natural wavy tresses or spray in a little surf spray to add texture; The idea of having a blow dry was rather a luxurious experience to me. When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted with a glass of bubbly and was guided towards my stylist for the evening, none other than Barry himself! After introductions, we headed up to the washing station, where I received the head massage of dreams. It’s really important to massage in your shampoo and conditioner to get the most out of your products., I learnt my constantly knotty – nightmare to brush – hair really just needed to be brushed before washing and before rinsing out conditioner, this allows the hair to really absorb the product and give that knot free silky smooth finish.

After washing we made our way downstairs to start on styling our hair. I’ve had various hairstyles and colours throughout the years – from short to so-long-I-can-sit-on-it, from fire hydrant red to brown but practically black – However, nowadays I just keep it as natural as possible. Naturally, my hair is quite thin but I have a lot of hair, creating the illusion of thick long locks. After having a chat with the lovely Barry, we decided on ‘Big, Barrelled Curls’ to add some life and volume to my head of hair. First Barry combed out my hair to get rid of any possible knots, then pinned the majority of my hair up leaving a few thin strands down. Then whilst spraying in some Barry Alan Blow Dry Spray, he blow-dried my hair, making sure to use a rounded brush to dry in a natural curl to my hair then once the piece of hair was dry he pinned into a curl on my head. Barry went and did this routine continuously on strands of my hair and eventually, my hair was all pinned. Hats off to Barry for this, as because I had so much hair it took a lot of work and considerably longer than my fellow bloggers medium to short hair. Once the hair was cool, Barry released all the pins holding it in place and just used his fingers to tousle my hair to break up any tighter curls. Unfortunately, we found out after about 20 minutes that my hair doesn’t take easily to being styled  – told you it was nightmare hair – and that to keep a polished curl I should use a heated curlers or a curling wand to help give it a bit more hold,  however I’m so happy with how it turned out and it’s made me consider changing up the style of my hair more often. Make sure you take the time to visit Barry Alan Salon if you’re local to Norwich or just visit for a couple of days!

I know exactly what you mean about the idea of a blow dry seeming like a luxurious experience – I hardly ever do anything with my hair so I totally agree! Glad you had a fab time, maybe I should take a little trip to Barry Alan 🙂
